Kythnos Island Greece

Kythnos is a small Greek island of the Western Cyclades Islands, located in the waters of the Aegean Sea between the islands of Ceos and Serifos. It is 56 nautical miles from Piraeus and about 40 km southeast of Cape Sounion, the southernmost tip of Attica. Kythnos is about 100 km long and has a coastline of about 100 km. It has more than 70 beaches, many of which are inaccessible by road. The crescent-shaped isthmus of fine sand of Kolona stands out. The main city bears the same name. The ancient city, now called Hebraeokastron, is in ruins and the walls can be seen. Modernly it was called Termia, after some hot springs in the northeastern part, but the name has not prevailed. The most famous character on the island was the painter Cidias. The island was mainly known for its excellent cheeses. Formerly it was called Driopis.
