Cerler Spain

Cerler (Sarllé en Aragonese) is a town center belonging to the municipality of Benasque, considered the second highest village in the Aragonese Pyrenees because it is located at 1,531 meters above sea level, behind Villarrué (1534 m) in the municipality of Laspaúles, according to National Geographic Institute. It consists of a small old town perfectly preserved, and an extension with various blocks of apartments and hotels that extends to the base of the ski resort Aramón Cerler. Winter and summer tourism, rural tourism and restoration are the economic bases of the town. Cerler retains all the flavor of the typical villages of the Valley. Despite the proximity of a large tourist center, the village has preserved its historical beauty. It has numerous noble houses of the sixteenth century and with some constructions of previous eras. Today there is a good road that climbs from Benasque, but until the first half of the 20th century to access Cerler, the founders of the ski resort had to climb on foot from the bottom of the valley, making night in the village houses. This lacked, among many other things, medical service, and if necessary, the sick were transported by mules to Benasque. The journey could last half an hour.
