Alexandroupolis, Evros Greece

Alexandroupolis is a city in Greece and the capital of the Evros regional unit, and the largest city in Western Thrace and the region of Eastern Macedonia. It is located at only 40 km of border Greece-Turkey. It is the biggest region of Western Thrace, and it is a relative young city, being founded only in 1873 by the Ottomans, as a fishing village. Thanks to the prosperity of the port of Alexandroupolis and the development of transports and the industry, the city growthed to become one of the most prosperous cities of the region. Besides of their beaches, Alexandroupolis is also a popular destination for nature tourism and for visiting the island of Samothrace.
